Long Island Marriage Counseling_ Staying Calm in the Storm

From Dr. Kramer – Give me a call now at 631-553-1476 to make an appointment or email me at Marriage Counseling Long Island.

At the Long Island Marriage Counseling Center, we often get called upon by one spouse complaining about the other. Typical topic might be credit cards. It goes like this: “She just doesnt listen. I am so frustrated. Why does she keep spending and spending. Stop her!”

We have to teach this spouse that you cannot directly change another person. You can influence them though, by how you act and communcate. In this case, we told the spouse to learn to stay calm and continue to tell his wife that her behavior was not acceptable and to tell her why it was not acceptable.

Obviously, the wife was not behaving responsibly. We consider that child behavior and we recommend talking to the wife as if to a child. Setting limits helps as well.

If you have experience with a similar problem, I would love to discuss with you. Just send an email to me through the form on the right, or call me at 631-553-1476.
